We grow confident mathematicians who are fluent in mathematical processes and mathematical language. We enable them to apply their knowledge and skills to reasoning and problem solving both now and in the future.
At our schools in St Hilda's Moorland Federation, we follow The National Curriculum. Our Medium Term and Long Term plans follow the White Rose Mastery Approach. Teachers use the suggested unit overviews to guide and inform the order of teaching; the goal of this process is to deepen understanding so that each lesson builds upon previous skills, ensures core skills are embedded firmly and allows children to make links between the different areas of maths. Using the White Rose Mastery Approach allows us to shape happy, confident and resilient learners who discover that maths brings an exciting journey of discovery, understanding – and a lifetime of opportunities. We also supplement this scheme with use of mastery, problem solving and reasoning work supplied from places such as the National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics (NCETM) and NRICH.
